Synopsis

The theory of nonlinear systems and, in particular, of integrable systems is related to several very active fields of research in theoretical physics. Many mathematical aspects of nonlinear systems, both continuous and discrete, are analyzed here with particular emphasis on the domains of inverse-scattering techniques, singularity analysis, the bilinear formalism, chaos in nonlinear oscillators, Lie-algebraic and group-theoretical methods, classical and quantum integrability, bihamiltonian structures. The book will be of considerable interest to those who wish to study integrable systems, and to follow the future developments, both in mathematics and in theoretical physics, of the theory of integrability.

From the Back Cover

The lectures that comprise this volume constitute a comprehensive survey of the many and various aspects of integrable dynamical systems. The present edition is a streamlined, revised and updated version of a 1997 set of notes that was published as Lecture Notes in Physics, Volume 495. This volume will be complemented by a companion book dedicated to discrete integrable systems. Both volumes address primarily graduate students and nonspecialist researchers but will also benefit lecturers looking for suitable material for advanced courses and researchers interested in specific topics.

Synopsis

This text is taken from proceedings of the CIMPA School and includes discussions of: integrability; poisson lie groups and dressing transformations; and analytic and asymptotic methods for nonlinear singularity analysis.
