Synopsis

A collection of papers presented at the First Pacific Conference in Hawaii. Contributors from the countries around the Pacific basin presented papers on polymer science and its prospects for the 1990s. Topics considered were high modules and high strength polymers and polymer liquid crystals; high temperature materials of polyamides, fluorocarbon polymers, silicones and other speciality polymers; multicomponent polymer systems of blends and composites, polymer solutions, gels, and networks and the processing of unusual compositions; functionality in polymers including spacer effects, comb and star polymers, electro-active polymers, polymers with unusual optical, opto-electrical and nonlinear optical properties and optically active polymers; and polymers of biological and medical importance, biomaterials and naturally occurring polymers and their modifications.
