The subject of the volume are language and linguistic structures in multi- and hypermedia documents. This topic includes a variety of new aspects, which the book summarizes in three parts: In the first part - 'Text Design' - is about the extension of textlinguistic questions into the second dimension. The content relation of information units can then be carried out not only with the means of the (one-dimensional) hierarchical division, but also in the area, as it is partly in the print media, but considerably stronger in the multimedia sector. The second part - 'Text Technology' - refers to the representation and processing of linguistic information in multi- and hypermedia documents, e.g. based on the 'Standard Generalized Markup Language' (SGML). In recent times, SGML has been flanked with further standards on the one hand, on the other hand, there is an increasing need for further content structuring of the digital texts. All contributions in the second part address this issue by transferring methods and results of linguistic information processing to word processing. The third part - 'Linguistic Information Systems' - addresses the specific problems arising in the implementation of linguistic and linguistic information in hypermedia applications, and introduces latest guidelines of systems.
