Synopsis
In the fifties, Peter Weiss shot films, twelve shorter and two longer ones. In them, the prehistory of the author's language finding takes place, characterised by the nervous search for new forms of expression on the way from painting to literature. Weiss experiments between the genres, probes the boundaries of the avant-garde, oscillates between psychoanalytic self-examination and interest in social, between surrealistic collage and committed realism. At the end of this search movement is the farewell to the film and the writer's rapid rise to one of the most profiled intellectuals in the Federal Republic, who caused scandals with pieces such as The Investigation and Viet Nam Discourse because he aimed at changing society. The present edition brings a selection of the films, commented by Harun Farocki.
