Being open and writing, Rilke didn't want anything: a modest and at the same time demanding wish. As an author, he learned "the whole life [...], as if it went through him with all his possibilities". However, even with all his contradictions: Rilke fled from his muses and could not be without them, lamenting the consequences of man-made progress and enthusiastic about technology, he loved simple life and had a pronounced penchant for beautiful things and residences. He created with the records of the Malte Laurids Brigge one of the first modern novels and epoch-making cycles of poetry, whose expressiveness continues to reproduce to this day.
Sandra Richter, literary scholar and director of the German Literature Archive Marbach, works with new sources that have reached Marbach with the purchase of the large Rilke archive 2022. In her biography, the author appears in new light: not the world-facing hermit, to whom he liked to stylize, but robust, assertive, alert in society, cheerful and self-deprecating and in financial matters more than one commonly assumes. This biography makes clear why it is particularly worth reading Rilke again today: he lived in difficult times, and he processed them with a force that may only seem credible in the face of existential threat.

Gebunden. Condition: Sehr gut. 478 pp. Deutsch.
