Ricarda Huch, 1864 in Braunschweig geboren, war Schriftstellerin, Philosophin und Historikerin. Sie studierte in der Schweiz Philosophie und Geschichte und promovierte 1892 an der Universitat Zurich. Sie arbeitete als Bibliothekarin und Lehrerin, veroffentlichte zahlreiche Gedichte, Romane, Stucke und zunehmend auch historische Werke. Sie starb 1947 in Schonberg im Taunus.
