But the reader also takes part in Rilke's Venice experience: in one of the 123 letters and cards of this volume unique letter essay from 1908; he follows him to Egypt and Spain and most recently into the war and postwar years full of conflict material in which the need for letter exchange waned and bitterness threatened friendship.
