Synopsis
Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) is a strategic approach to managing a product over its entire lifecycle. While the focus in recent years has been on the integration of CAD and PDM, PLM is increasingly coming to the fore, especially in medium-sized industry, especially in mechanical and plant engineering. PDM systems play a central role in the implementation of this concept and are now one of the standard tools in industrial product development.
The integration of CAD and PDM, the networking of engineering disciplines in mechatronics, supporting distributed development environments, the use of document management, the linking of PDM with new technologies such as service-oriented architectures are essential features of a PDM system. They are also the key to optimizing the product creation process and a prerequisite for advanced PLM strategies.
The book presents a complex topic understandably and illustrates how PLM works practically in the company using numerous concrete examples. PRO.FILE from PROCAD is the PDM system, which is considered an example.
