Visio has established itself as the de facto standard for creating diagrams of different embossing. Although Visio can do many things, but not everything. What is missing in functionality can be added later.
This book shows how this succeeds. It includes three main areas:
- Chapter 1 deals with the intelligence of shapes and explains what information can be tied to a shape. This chapter describes how to create your own shapes that go beyond a purely geometric representation: entries in the context menu, protection mechanisms, control points, and shape data are discussed as central topics.
- Chapters 2 to 8 describe how to open files and stencils, drag shapes onto the drawing page, or generate, format, label and connect from lines, ellipses and rectangles. If a program is based on a database, the data from that database can be read and graphically implemented in Visio or - vice versa - data is written from Visio to Word, Excel, Access or another program.
- Finally, Chapter 9 is dedicated to creating executable .exe files. Visio can be accessed using Visual Studio.NET. You can also use VB.NET to create and integrate add-ons into Visio to expand the scope of the program.
The book provides a very practical account of the multiple customization options in Visio. The examples come almost invariably from the author's practice and vividly illustrate the most important aspects of Visio programming.
