Synopsis

The book systematically introduces the basic principles of multimedia programming on illustrative examples. Based on this, the most important components and interfaces of the DirectX API are discussed. The C++ examples are programmed to create reusable classes that can help the reader with their own programming tasks.
The spectrum of examples ranges from simple playback of WAV, MIDI, MP3, AVI and MPEG files to your own playback programs for audio CDs and interactive DVDs. A separate chapter is dedicated to controlling animation sequences (graphical surfaces) in window and full screen mode. How to mix and record sound with interesting 3D effects is described as an example.

The enclosed CD contains all book examples, the DirectX SDK 8.1, some useful tools, free filters, reusable classes, and pre-built DirectX frameworks.
