Recent emphasis on modeling and simulation of evacuation situations lacks realism while describing human behavior. Many studies relating to crowd behavior in emergency situations contradicts with each other as well. The potential benefits of utilizing pervasive technologies and ambient intelligence to save lives has, not only, increased the complexity of modeling task, but also, enhanced the issues of models realism and contradictions. Advancements in agent-based modeling of socio-technical systems are increasingly influencing modeling of realistic societal activities emerging from individual behavior and local interactions. Towards this, taking ambient intelligence-assisted evacuation as a base line scenario, this book documents behaviorally realistic agent-based models designed and simulated for different settings.
