Both the presence of mildly acidic hydroxy groups and slightly basic nitrogen atoms make (E,E)-dioximes amphoteric ligands which form corrin-type square-planar, square-pyramidal and octahedral complexes with some transition metal ions such as nickel (II), cobalt(II), copper(II), palladium(II) and cobalt(III) as central metal atoms.
