Synopsis
Der vorliegende Band versammelt vierundzwanzig Beiträge führender Forscherinnen und Forscher, die sich mit grundlegenden Fragen zur Komposition des Pentateuch im ersten Jahrtausend v. Chr. in seinen unterschiedlichen kulturellen Kontexten befassen, darunter der südlichen Levante, Mesopotamien und möglicherweise Ägypten. Er eröffnet mit einer neuen Bewertung der dem Pentateuch zugrunde liegenden Schriftkulturen und untersucht die materiellen und soziologischen Dimensionen der Rollenproduktion im antiken Israel, Juda und darüber hinaus. Dabei wird die Komposition des Pentateuch im Kontext altorientalischer Schriftkulturen betrachtet und zugleich die Besonderheiten israelitischer Textproduktion in der Eisenzeit sowie in der persischen und hellenistischen Epoche berücksichtigt. Der Band bietet sodann eine Reihe von Fallstudien und methodologischen Reflexionen, die sich mit der Literaturgeschichte des Pentateuch sowie mit der Datierung und Interpretation seiner Texte befassen. Besondere Aufmerksamkeit gilt dem Wechselverhältnis von narrativen und rechtlichen Materialien, veranschaulicht vor allem durch Fallstudien aus Genesis und Numeri.
