Synopsis
The Merck European Thyroid Symposium 2004 was aimed at presenting the main clinical and epidemiological studies performed on the clinical relevance of overt and subclinical thyroid dysfunction for cardiovascular diseases and to discuss the indications for treatment. Lectures on the molecular action of thyroid hormones on the heart preceded the presentations on thyroid dysfunction as a major cardiovascular risk factor and provided insights in the most interesting background of clinical findings.
