Synopsis
What were the long-term consequences of the Reformation in the High North? In this book, a multidisciplinary approach is applied to the Reformation processes in northern Scandinavia. Taking a long chronological perspective from the late Middle Ages to the early 1700s, the book aims to clarify general social changes entailed by the Reformation and to identify major factors which shaped the developments in the North.

In the first part, the authors examine various aspects of the relationship between the church and the state, and how the Reformation processes contributed to reshape this relationship. In the second part, the development of the social and economic networks among the population of Northern Fennoscandia is mapped, taking account of how such networks were affected by different ethnic groups.
