Synopsis
This volume contains the first edition of the commentaries on the gospels by Bishop Fortunatianus of Aquileia (mid-4th century). This work, which was only discovered in the form of an almost complete manuscript in 2012, is the oldest preserved commentary on the gospels from Latin antiquity, and therefore of extraordinary significance for patristics. The critical edition of the text includes a detailed introduction.

Februar 2024 jährte sich die Einrichtung des Corpus Scriptorum Ecclesiasticorum Latinorum durch die Wiener Akademie der Wissenschaften im Jahre 1864 zum 160. Mal. Das CSEL wurde begründet, um dem Thesaurus linguae Latinae wissenschaftlich fundierte und kritisch berichtigte Editionen der lateinischen christlichen Autoren zur Verfügung zu stellen. Seitdem sind mehr als 100 Bände (sowie zahlreiche Bände Extra Seriem) erschienen, seit dem 150. Jahr (2014) publiziert bei De Gruyter. Die Reihe Corpus Scriptorum Ecclesiasticorum Latinorum (CSEL) umfasst philologisch abgesicherte, kritische Editionen lateinischer Texte der christlichen Spätantike von Tertullian bis Beda Venerabilis und erschließt damit Werke der patristischen Epoche des lateinischen Westens für den Zeitraum vom späten zweiten bis in das frühe achte Jahrhundert für alle jene Wissenschaftsdisziplinen, die sich mit unterschiedlichen Aspekten der Spätantike befassen. Die Bände des Corpus Scriptorum Ecclesiasticorum Latinorum werden unter Mitarbeit international renommierter Editoren auf dem wissenschaftlich letzten Stand editorischer Methodik erstellt und von der gleichnamigen Institution, die 1864 von der Österreichischen Akademie der Wissenschaften in Wien gegründet wurde und seit 2012 an der Universität Salzburg angesiedelt ist, herausgegeben.
