Synopsis
"The twenty-first century will be or not be religious," this aphorism is happily attributed to André Malraux. And indeed, religion is ubiquitous today. In shades from fundamentalism to lifestyle, she has prevailed, it is considered chic to be religious. The argument for this is increasingly common: they still have values.
In doing so, the history of atheism was once a success story: how one had freed oneself from censorship, oppression, false values, and church power. How a purely this side-related attitude was asserted against religious delusion and omnipotence claims - for the purpose of a better society.
Where is atheism today? The Neue Rundschau wants to ask this question. And recall that Malraux has already denied in 1975 to have ever said the sentence awarded to him.
