Synopsis

A challenging task for bioscientists has always been and still is the question of how a distinct enzymatic function is encoded in a corresponding molecular structure. Genetic engineering techniques, computer aided calculations and sophisticated experimental techniques nowadays provide facilities to make a deeper understanding of structure-function relationships a realistic aim. Volume Seven of this series comprehends data which represent seminal developments in this field. The contributions cover a broad scope ranging from 3rd-structure studies of engineered protein molecules to understand the functional importance of distinct amino acids, calculations of the active site specificities with respect to reaction mechanisms and prediciton of membrane topology supported by experimental data. Internationally acknowledged experts present in 10 articles an updated view of structure-function relationships of the key enzyme in biotransformation.
