This book is the result of 30 years of research on the development of high-yiel ding wheat varieties, which have been grown commercially for more than two decad es, and which are used in many breeding centres around the world as germ plasm. The book is specifically designed to help researchers and plant breeders who wis h to make new varieties that are superior in genetic yield potential and quality to the currently cultivated varieties of field crops and various other plant sp ecies. The ultimate goal of these studies is to increase food production for th e expanding world population whilst taking account of the need to secure crops m inimally contaminated with substances detrimental to human and animal health.
