Synopsis

One day, Malin's sister Sybil becomes stone, disappears, leaving behind a perplexed family. Malin follows her sister into a mysterious world to find Sybil and return home together. Will she succeed? In "WEG", the multi-layered effects of Sybil's mental illness on her environment are negotiated. What does it mean for family and friends if a close person is not psychologically well? Rina Jost gives the loved ones a voice and thematises their challenges with empathy and sensitivity. "Sybil is gone, and yet she is there. It has become stone, and yet it is alive. Her sister Malin is experiencing Sybil's absence very heavy. The fear of Sybil is a constant and unyielding companion for their environment. Malin sets out to search for her sister and lives through the abysses of mental need on a long way. Before I read the story, I followed the protagonists through Rina Jost's picture worlds. Again and again, I immersed myself in the metamorphoses of their lived journey, sank in the wake of their pictures, which despite the severity of the topic have something very warm-hearted and playful. Only in a second step did I read the text. Even there, Jost chooses a clear, straightforward language that makes it easy for readers to follow the path. The heaviness becomes comprehensible and comprehensible at Jost. The stone becomes a feather and 'weg', thanks to its coherence in word and picture, an absolutely recommended comicroman.» Katja Alves, author
