Successfully developing power electronic converters and converter-fed electric drives involves system modeling, analyzing output voltage, current, electromagnetic torque, and machine speed, and making necessary design changes before hardware implementation. Inverters and AC Drives: Control, Modeling, and Simulation Using Simulink offers readers Simulink models for single, multi-triangle carrier, selective harmonic elimination, and space vector PWM techniques for three-phase two-level, multi-level (including modular multi-level), Z-source, Quasi Z-source, switched inductor, switched capacitor and diode assisted extended boost inverters, six-step inverter-fed permanent magnet synchronous motor (PMSM), brushless DC motor (BLDCM) and induction motor (IM) drives, vector-controlled PMSM, IM drives, direct torque-controlled inverter-fed IM drives, and fuzzy logic controlled converter-fed AC drives with several examples and case studies. The appendices include source code for all relevant models, model projects, and answers to selected model projects from all chapters.
This textbook will be a valuable resource for upper-level undergraduate and graduate students in electrical and electronics engineering, power electronics, and AC drives. It is also a hands-on reference for practicing engineers and researchers in these areas.

Narayanaswamy P.R. Iyer, CPEngg., Ph.D., is the Founder of Myna Electrical and Electronics Consultancy in Australia and has more than two decades of experience in the modeling of electrical and electronic circuits, power electronic converters, and electric drives using various software packages including MATLAB/Simulink, PSIM, PSCAD, PSPICE, and MICROCAP. He received his Master of Engineering by research and Ph.D. in Power Electronics and Drives from the University of Technology Sydney (UTS), NSW, and Curtin University of Technology (CURTIN), Perth, WA, Australia, respectively. He received his B.Sc.(Engg.)(Electrical) and M.Sc.(Engg.)(Power Systems) degrees from the University of Kerala and the University of Madras, respectively. Dr. Iyer has worked as a part-time faculty member in the Department of Electrical Engineering at UNSW, Sydney, and UTS, and as a full-time faculty member in the Department of Electrical Engineering at several engineering colleges and universities in India. He was a research fellow with the Faculty of Engineering, Power Electronics, Machines, and Control group at the University of Nottingham, UK, from July 2012 to March 2014. He has published several papers in this area in leading conferences and journals. He has to his credit several discoveries such as “Three Phase Clipped Sinusoid PWM Inverter,” “Single Programmable and Dual Programmable Rectifier Using Three Phase Matrix Converter Topology,” “A Novel AC to AC Converter Using a DC Link,” and a submitted patent on “A Single Phase AC to PWM Single Phase AC and DC Converter” with alternative title “Swamy Converter.” Dr. Iyer is the author of the books Power Electronic Converters Interactive Modelling Using Simulink (CRC Press, 2018) and AC to AC Converters Modelling, Simulation and Real-Time Implementation Using Simulink (CRC Press, 2019). He is a Chartered Professional Engineer (CPEngg.) of Australia.
