Synopsis

Editions Declics was founded in 2001. The founders were Bertrand Dalin and the creators of the famous Petit Fute guides, Le Petit Fute being one of the biggest guide publishers in France. The initial idea was to publish a collection of books 'to fall in love with', about French towns and regions: a new style of regional book with a photographic slant, able to attract a wider-based public than traditional books. To shake the dust off a well-worn genre. To achieve this, the creators rely on an extensive network of photographers and specialised writers, built up over 20 years of publishing. In each region, they can count on the top professionals in their field. The first books dedicated to French towns came out in 2002 and were immediately successful. The concept met with overwhelming approval from the media, and won over booksellers and the general public alike. The collection grew rapidly, and today contains nearly 30 titles. 2003 saw the launch of a new collection, Portraits of France, in tribute to the French regions. In 150 definitive photos and a flowing text, Portraits of France presents the many facets of each region: history; towns and villages of character; coast and countryside; gastronomy. Brittany and Provence are the first titles to be made available in English and will be followed by Paris, Burgundy, French Riviera, Normandy and Dordogne.
