The story of Chantecler, the cockerel who believes he makes the sun rise. Written in Rostand's lively, witty and lyrical verse, it contains the famous 'Hymn to the Sun'. Suffused with the poet's love of the French countryside, it expresses his idealistic attitude to life and work, and his faith in the power of love to transcend human nature.
