Synopsis
" A toi mon cher Alfred, ces pages sont dédiées et données. Elles renferment une âme toute entière. Est-ce la mienne ? Est-ce une autre ? [...] rappelle-toi que c'est un fou qui a écrit ces pages [...] " Pourquoi se dire " fou " ? Dans ce roman hybride où se côtoient apostrophes au lecteur, méditation sur soi et autobiographie, Flaubert offre le bilan désenchanté d'un premier amour impossible. Alors que la folie apparaît ici comme un état de " grande santé ", celle qui préserve du conformisme abêtissant, l'auteur y raconte la naissance de sa vocation d'écrivain. En transformant la folie en normalité, en recyclant et détournant les discours conventionnels, ce texte met en lumière l'opposition établie entre la folie des uns et la bêtise du monde.
