Synopsis

About the Author
L'écrivain américain Thomas Harris est né en 1940 à Jackson, Tennessee, et a grandi à Rich dans le Mississippi où son père s'était établi comme fermier. Il étudie l'anglais à l'université de Baylor, à Waco, Texas, tout en travaillant comme reporter pour le News Tribune. Dans les années soixante, Thomas Harris envoie ses premiers textes à des magazines, des nouvelles macabres qui se distinguent par un sens aigu du détail. Après l'obtention de son diplôme, en 1964, il part voyager en Europe puis devient reporter pour l'Associated Press à New York. Jusqu'en 1974, il couvre les affaires criminelles aux Etats-Unis et au Mexique, lesquelles seront la matière première de ses romans. Après le succès de Black Sunday, son premier roman publié en 1975, Thomas Harris se consacre entièrement à l'écriture. Il met six ans à écrire son deuxième roman, Dragon rouge, publié en 1981, qui introduit le personnage de serial killer le plus populaire de la littérature, Hannibal "Le Cannibale" Lecter. La suite de ce livre, Le silence des agneaux, parue en 1988, est un immense succès populaire et son adaptation cinématographique entre dans la légende hollywoodienne (cinq oscars pour le film de Jonathan Demme, 1991). Hannibal, le troisième volet de la série, a été publié en 1999 et adapté au cinéma par Ridley Scott en 2001.
