Synopsis
La Chanson de Roland est le premier grand texte littéraire français, celui qui a fixé pour toujours dans les mémoires la mort de Roland à Roncevaux. Composée, telle que nous la connaissons, à la fin du me siècle, c'est la plus ancienne, la plus illustre et la plus belle des chansons de geste, ces poèmes épiques chantés qui situent tous leur action trois siècles en arrière, à l'époque carolingienne, sous le règne de Charlemagne ou de son fils. La Chanson de Roland est un poème d'une âpre grandeur, dense et profond, jouant avec une sobre puissance de ses résonances et de ses échos. About the Author
Michel Zink holds the chair of Literatures of Medieval France at the Collge de France. He was professor of medieval French literature at the University of Toulouse and at the Sorbonne, and he has been a visiting professor at the University of Constance, the Johns Hopkins University, the University of California, Berkeley, and at Yale University.
Ian Short is a lecturer in mathematics at the Open University. His research interests lie in dynamics and geometry.
