Synopsis
Voici, pour la première fois, l'oeuvre complète d'Isabelle Eberhardt. Ecrits sur le sable, le premier volume, réunit l'intégralité des Journaliers, des Notes de Route et de Vagabondages. Ces textes constituent la chronique de ce que vécut Isabelle Eberhardt à partir du moment où elle choisit de s'immerger dans le Sahara. Le fil de ce véritable récit, lentement, se confond avec la route qu'elle emprunte et, page après page, le paysage absorbe tout à la fois l'auteur et son lecteur. Pour autant, l'exotisme est absent de ces pages. La magie du désert, conjuguée au regard d'Isabelle Eberhardt, suffit pour engendrer la légende. Flaubert, Maupassant, Loti et la fièvre orientaliste ne sont pas loin et, cependant, cette grande voyageuse dépasse ces illustres témoins : elle ancre le récit de ses pérégrinations au coeur de la mythologie. Depuis toujours, ces textes ont fait rêver. Au point d'être mis en scène par des épigones, interprétés, coupés, amendés, corrigés par des amoureux que certaines libertés de cet écrivain audacieux effrayaient. Voici, donc, l'oeuvre d'Isabelle Eberhardt rétablie dans sa forme originelle et ordonnée comme elle l'aurait souhaité. Un second volume réunit les oeuvres romanesques d'Isabelle Eberhardt.

About the Author
Isabelle Eberhardt est née en 1877 à Genève d'une mère issue de l'aristocratie russe et d'un père à l'identité controversée. Sa découverte de l'Afrique du Nord, à l'âge de vingt ans, est aussi brutale que définitive. Elle mourra en 1904, noyée par la crue de l'oued Sefra. Pendant sept années, elle avait consigné au jour le jour ses découvertes, ses éblouissements, le récit de ses errances, le plus souvent sous un nom et des habits d'homme.
