Synopsis
Retranchés dans une maison du Jura, Milan, décorateur parisien, et sa femme Robert, jadis si libertins, si souverains, se haïssent de s'ètre trop aimés. Leurs excès les ont enchaïnes. Entre l'alcool et les visites d'Hélène, la jeune institutrice du village, les jours s'égouttent comme du poison. Roberte cherche à pervertir Hélène; Hélène va aimer Milan: Milan ne veut plus aimer. Il a tué la passion en lui et veut renaître, seul et grand. Ce roman, l'auteur le voulait cruel, horrible et plein de foi quand mème dans le bonheur...

About the Author
Roger Vailland (1907-1965), co-fondateur dans sa jeunesse de la revue Le Grand Jeu, avec René Daumal et Roger Gilbert-Lecomte, il devient reporter à Paris-Soir. Résistant, il découvre au cours d’une mission chez Daniel Cordier un exemplaire de Lucien Leuwen qui le bouleverse. Le voici stendhalien, et romancier. L’après-guerre le verra communiste et libertin, en tout cas anticonformiste. Il obtient le prix Goncourt en 1957 avec La Loi. Les Mauvais coups a été publié en 1948.
