Synopsis
" Ce livre est un roman de mœurs et d'aventures. Il raconte l'histoire vraie d'une lignée de rats d'égouts parisiens. Pour l'écrire, j'ai interrogé des experts, j'ai recueilli des témoignages, j'ai lu des livres, des articles et des dépêches d'agence. J'ai même rencontré quelques rats près de l'église Saint-Eustache, à l'époque du chantier géant des Halles. Passé la répulsion ordinaire aux Occidentaux, j'ai d'abord cru que l'existence courte et rude de ces animaux ressemblait à celle de nos grands ancêtres, des costauds un peu cannibales qui vivaient dans la peur et risquaient la mort pour un steak de mammouth. Regardant mieux, je me suis demandé combien d'entre nous vivaient autrement que des rats. L'homme et le rat sont les seuls animaux qui dévorent leurs semblables. " P. R.

About the Author
Patrick Rambaud a écrit plus d'une trentaine de livres, parmi lesquels La Bataille, grand prix du roman de l'Académie française et prix Goncourt 1997, et Il neigeait, prix Ciné Roman Carte Noire 2001. Il prépare le troisième volume de son triptyque sur la fin de l'Empire.
