Synopsis
La Grande Rivière le fleuve Saint-Laurent coulait déjà dans les rêves adolescents de Michel Jamonneau, meunier à La Bêchée, paroisse d'Augé, en Poitou. La mort d'un ami et les dures nécessités de la vie quotidienne dans la France rurale du XVIIe siècle ont brisé pour Michel les espérances de ses quinze ans : il doit rester auprès des siens. Mais, un matin d'avril 1687, un soldat des Compagnies franches de la Marine embarque sur le vaisseau l'Arc-en-Ciel, à destination du Canada : Michel Jamonneau, dit " Laliberté ". Un homme de vingt-neuf ans, dans l'obligation de fuir l'intolérance du temps... " Laliberté " : le beau surnom sert de fil conducteur à cette histoire, du Poitou à la Nouvelle-France, du minuscule ruisseau de Cathelogne au flot puissant de la Grande Rivière. Sur la trame précise de documents fournis par la descendante de son héros, Michelle Clément-Mainard a écrit un roman généreux, dans cette langue toujours jeune et vivante au Québec : la langue drue de nos provinces. Michelle Clément-Mainard a passé toute sa jeunesse à Azay-le-Brûlé, dans les Deux-Sèvres. Depuis 1981, elle est revenue y vivre après une carrière d'institutrice en Vendée et a écrit quatre romans qui ont connu un grand succès : La Fourche à loup, La Foire aux mules, Les Sabots de la liberté, L'Empreinte des sabots.
