Cet ouvrage propose aux étudiants des universités et classes préparatoires une méthode complète pour maîtriser la technique du commentaire composé, exercice fondamental puisqu'il tend vers une lecture exhaustive des textes littéraires. Un "guide méthodologique" apprend à définir la problématique à partir de laquelle s'édifiera le commentaire et récapitule les instruments d'analyse en fonction des quatre principaux types de textes : narratif, poétique, théâtral, argumentatif.
