About the Author
Après de solides études en arts graphiques à l'école MET de PENNINGHEN à l'ESAG puis à l'académie CHARPENTIER, il est d'abord illustrateur indépendant et réalise des illustrations pour Bayard Presse, Hatier, Hachette (" la Bibliothèque rose "), etc.
Il entre en 1981 dans le groupe Bayard Presse comme maquettiste et illustrateur pour le magazine Pomme d'Api. Il y devient directeur artistique en créant le magazine Youpi. Parallèlement, il illustre le magazine Popi et se spécialise dans la connaissance de l'attitude des tout-petits. Il se met à son compte en 1992 pour se consacrer à des projets personnels : réalisation de décors d'émissions de télévision pour enfants, création de la gamme graphique des CD du chanteur Pierre Lozère, illustrations de produits de puériculture pour des agences de design et de jeux (Absorba, Nestlé, Peau Douce, Monsavon, Smorby, Mustella), collections d'albums pour la France et les Etats-Unis (Readers Digest, Penguin & Putnam)... et surtout la création du personnage T'choupi pour les jeux Nathan. Il imagine un tendre petit garçon pingouin, aux formes rondes et graphiques : il crée son univers, sa famille, ses amis et en plus le fidèle confident de T'choupi : Doudou. Il réalise une gamme de couleurs plus douces que les couleurs alors en vogue : " j'ai travaillé dans la recherche d'une forme ronde aux trois couleurs, ce qui le rend unique et c'est ainsi que la tête du pingouin conceptualisé à ma façon graphique m'est apparue. " Il a réalisé plus de 30 produits-jeux de ce personnage. En 1997, les albums de T'choupi sont lancés, diffusés depuis à 3 millions d'exemplaires dans plusieurs pays !...
Thierry Courtin a toujours travaillé pour les enfants de 1 à 5 ans, son graphisme qui va à l'essentiel (pureté, tendresse de ses dessins et de leurs couleurs) touche particulièrement cette tranche d'âge et leur famille.
