Sempé est né à Bordeaux, le 17 août 1932. À 17 ans, il roule à bicyclette pour un courtier en vins. En 1960, il démarre avec Goscinny l'aventure du petit Nicolas, dressant une inoubliable galerie de portraits d' "affreux jojos qui tapissent depuis notre imaginaire" (dixit Goscinny). Son humour fin, subtil et allusif allié à un formidable sens du dérisoire caractérisent toute son oeuvre. Sa plume traduit sa vision tendrement ironique de nos travers et des travers du monde. Sempé est l'auteur d'une trentaine d'albums. En 1988, il a illustré Catherine Certitude, de Patrick Modiano, dessinait régulièrement pour "L'Express", "Télérama", "le New Yorker" et exposait ses dessins et ses aquarelles à Munich, New York, Londres ou Salzburg, où il a toujours rencontré un très vif succès. Sempé est mort le 11 aôut 2022, à l'âge de 89 ans.
Né le 14 août 1926, à Paris, René Goscinny est l'un de plus grands scénaristes de bande dessinée francophone. Il reprend le scénario de Lucky Luke en 1955, puis crée l'année suivante Le Petit Nicolas avec Sempé. Quatre ans plus tard, il est l'un des fondateurs du journal Pilote dans lequel est lancé un personnage devenu légendaire : Astérix, dessiné par Albert Uderzo. Créateur d'Oumpah-Pah, Spaghetti, Iznogoud, scénariste des Dingodossiers (avec Gotlib) ou de Jehan Pistolet, René Goscinny s'éteint le 5 novembre 1977, à l'époque où les studios Idefix travaillent sur l'adaptation en long-métrage d'animation de La Ballade des Dalton.
La maîtresse est inquiète, le photographe s'éponge le front, le Bouillon devient tout rouge, les mamans ont mauvaise mine, les papas font les guignols, le directeur part à la retraite, quant à l'inspecteur, il est reparti aussi vite qu'il était venu. Pourtant, à l'école ou en famille, Geoffroy, Agnan, Eudes, Rufus, Clotaire, Maixent, Alceste, Joachim... et le Petit Nicolas sont - presque - toujours sages.
