Synopsis
A qui douterait que les mathématiques sont partie intégrante de la culture, ce recueil apporte d'intéressants sujets de réflexion. Si l'on sait bien que Bach composait en jouant avec les nombres, que George Perec construisait ses romans comme des algorithmes ou que Raymond Queneau était un mathématicien distingué, on connaît moins l'influence de l'algèbre sur les Histoires extraordinaires d'Edgar Poe, les nouvelles de Borges et l'architecture de Le Corbusier, ou l'emprise de la géométrie sur la sculpture moderne et l'oeuvre de Paul Klee. Plus étrange encore, on découvrira ici, entre autres, la notation mathématique de la danse et la remarquable trouvaille du chanteur Boby Lapointe qui proposa de remplacer le système binaire par un système "bibinaire" qui trouvera peut-être un jour d'intéressantes applications.
