Synopsis
Gravement malade, Palabaud décide de quitter Tahiti pour revenir vers Lyon, sa ville natale, où son ami d'enfance est médecin. Accompagné de Vaïté, Polynésienne dont la beauté se fane quelque peu, il erre dans la ville, consulte, retrouve des bribes de son passé. Mais l'hiver arrive, les lagons sont loin et la mer absente. Sans révolte ni amertume, Palabaud envisage " le passage ".

A quarante ans, pressentant sa fin prochaine, Jean Reverzi, " médecin des pauvres ", écrit - au retour d'un voyage en Océanie - son premier roman, Le Passage, qui lui vaut un succès immédiat. Il mènera de pair sa double carrière, jusqu'à sa mort en 1959. Prix Renaudot 1954.
