Synopsis

In Alternative War, former police officer turned investigative journalist James Patrick tackles Russian interference in the UK's Brexit referendum and the US election of President Donald Trump head-on, exposing the reality of the third world war in the face of fake news and sophisticated disinformation campaigns.

Based on interviews, documents, and information from both sides of the Atlantic, including an expedition to Sweden to explore Russian-sponsored alt-right disinformatsiya, this book uncovers the truth about the undeclared conflict which has rocked democracy, peace, and stability across the West.

Over the course of an extensive investigation spanning Europe, North America, and beyond, Patrick has brought together experts, classified intelligence reports, public records, and witness testimony to build the most extensive and accurate account of Vladimir Putin's assault on the NATO allies to date. The book documents how detached and deniable assets, including Wikileaks and the far-right - including UKIP and Republican officials - were engaged by Russia to successfully subvert two of the world's superpowers and install managed democracies in the execution of a strategy planned over decades, to enhance the Russian position and destabilise its perceived enemies.

Alternative War exposes the depth and complexity of a hybrid world war and captures the methods used to profile and manipulate populations in order for Russia to emerge victorious. The book leads us to question everything about Western regulation and enforcement, setting accountability at the highest levels while empowering the people everywhere to help ensure the world is never taken by surprise again.

About this title

Review

"Probably the most important book of our time. Brilliantly written and researched by the author, It lays bare the attack on Western democracy. This book tells you how Brexit and Trump happened. Our democracy has been attacked, and hardly anyone even realised. This book needs to be compulsory reading."

"If you want to know what the hell happened - read this. Excellent, well written, thorough investigative journalism with chilling conclusions."

"An excellent book: well written, insightful; this book explores the links between Russia, Brexit, Trump. Clearly shows the extent if Russuan influence ( actual and cyber) on world events. The author demonstrates excellent research; the conclusions are damning. As someone who has been involved in these fields; I can attest to its accuracy"

"If you want to understand what's been happening in the world for the past few years, then this book is a must read. In one book, you have a record of the secret war that has been waged around us with hardly anyone noticing."

"The most important book of the decade...maybe. Everyone, regardless of their political persuasion needs to read this and share far and wide. The book was put together in record time which deserves credit in itself. Must read!"

"A fantastic insight in how we got to be in the mess we're in on both sides of the Atlantic."

"Our forefathers died so that we could be free. Our democracies are vibrant yet fragile. We must not allow our liberty to be compromised or manipulated by hostile foreign powers. Alternative War validates what many of us have observed and believed with respect to Russian interference in the political systems of the UK, US and Europe. They used Ukraine as a testing ground, then operationalized their techniques globally. Thanks to James Patrick for writing this book, and to Cynefin Road for publishing it and Byline Media for sponsoring it."
