This is a story made from stories. It is a contemporary literary novel. A book about books. Yet it is a campaigning one also, because it addresses particularly urgent social issues in our country - for instance mental health support provision for young people in crisis. Necessarily controversial, it challenges automatic professional exclusion of parents from the healing process; a practice that is still seemingly widespread. There is a child's mysterious journey in the world from a particular, and now vanished, place in Britain in the 1940s. There are stories around illegitimacy, around mental health crises in the young, and of an unwilling, and sometimes surprising, journey through parenthood. More stories still are of children and schools; and particularly of poetry, childhood and teacher education. Most of all though and altogether, this is a love story - made from wonder and terror.

"I read this book straight through because I couldn't put it down". G.H. Reynolds - Education Today (Of An Early Start to Poetry) "In his introduction, Colin Walter demonstrates poetry working to inform the nature of language, and challenges the notion of `balance', which would keep poetry in its place." Jill Pirrie - Poetry Review (Of B P Teachers' Poetry Resources Files) "Colin Walter outlines specific suggestions for the teaching of poetry in classrooms. The approach (is) suitable for a wide variety of learners from primary school pupils of all ages to students on teacher-education courses. Poetry is not a goal that we should aim for, it is where we should begin." Linda Thompson - The Teaching of Poetry (Of Thinking through Form: Preparing to teach Poetry in School)
