Synopsis

Wing area, engine performance and structural mass are parts of the same problem. Change one and the consequences appear elsewhere: in fuel demand, runway performance, climb capability or operating margin. Spacecraft design has its own coupled demands: orbital access, electrical power, heat rejection, pointing and data return.

Visual Fundamentals of Aerospace Engineering follows those relationships from mission requirements to vehicle and system decisions. Mechanics, fluid flow, thermodynamics and structural behaviour provide the foundation for aerodynamics, flight performance, stability, propulsion, launch and orbital motion. Atmospheric entry draws them together under high-speed flow, heating and guidance constraints.

Each calculation has a job: estimate a load, size a component, compare alternatives or test whether a mission is plausible. Diagrams make the physical relationships visible; worked examples keep units, boundaries, assumptions and margins attached to the result. The final design study follows one Earth-observation spacecraft concept through preliminary sizing, resource budgets and the questions that remain unresolved.

A numerical result is useful only within the conditions its model represents. Throughout the book, the engineering judgement is explicit: what the calculation supports, what remains uncertain and what must be established by further analysis or test.
