About the Author

James Ray Ellerston, born in 1950, is a poet, historian, musician, father and husband who has traveled nine times to Europe, as well as western Canada and the United States including Alaska and Hawaii. He was a music educator for thirty-three years in Iowa, performing on violin and viola in community ensembles. He earned a B.A. from Central College (Pella, Iowa) in 1972, an M.S. in Education from Bemidji State University (Bemidji, Minnesota) in 1976, and an additional B.A. in Management and Personnel from Buena Vista University (Storm Lake, Iowa) in 1987. For the past sixty-one years, James has spent part of each summer at his cabin on Ten Mile Lake near Hackensack, Minnesota. He married his wife Shelley in 1978. After living in Fort Dodge, Iowa, for 44 years, Jim and Shelley (also a graduate of Central College) moved back to Pella, Iowa, in the fall of 2016. Together they have two grown children, one grandson, and a crazy Jack Russell Terrier.
