About the Author

Robert Deigh is CEO of a public relations firm in the Washington, D.C. region that has helped hundreds of companies and non-profits win more visibility and grow. He is a communications professional with more than 25 years of experience in PR, public affairs, marketing and journalism. Deigh is known for helping organizations increase their visibility and build successful brands by creating strong and positive relationships with key audiences including the news media. He serves as communication counsel to a broad range of organizations: Fortune 500 companies, educational institutions, high-tech firms, healthcare organizations, hospitality, the military, federal government and non-profit groups. He is also a U.S. Army veteran. Deigh is author of the popular PR book: “Spark: The Complete Public Relations Guide for Small Business” available on Amazon in Kindle and paperback. He is also a frequent speaker and writer on PR strategies. Before starting his own firm in 2000, Deigh was PR director for Blackboard Inc., an online education company. Before Blackboard, he was communication director of two divisions of America Online, Inc., and senior VP of a DC-based PR firm. Deigh has more than a dozen years of journalism experience. He was an associate editor of U.S. News & World Report magazine and has written for many other magazines as well as newspapers, television, radio and online media outlets. He served for seven years as communications director for PBS where he was also the network’s national spokesperson. He was an active-duty U.S. Army public affairs officer in Panama and stateside locations. Also, Deigh was a public affairs officer at the U.S. Department of Agriculture and speechwriter for the Secretary. Deigh holds a BS in mass communications and an MS in public relations. He is also a part-time musician, performing in bands as a blues, rock and jazz guitarist. Deigh is very active with writers and PR professional groups across the country and online.
