Synopsis

This book is designed to provide students with an insight into how to tackle level 4 questions presented on the GCSE Mathematics Papers. The questions focus on strategy and technique rather than repetition as would normally be found in an exercise book. The book is divided broadly into 15 exercises covering number, algebra, ratio, geometry, probability and statistics. Some questions require skills from several areas of GCSE mathematics. Questions labelled “calculator” may be solved with the use of any scientific calculator. The questions focus on key areas that students frequently require assistance with. These topics include: 1. Understanding of proportion. 2. Presenting solutions in a logical order. 3. Selecting appropriate solution strategies. The full solutions are given at the end of each exercise. It is recommended that the solutions are studied carefully and that students take note of the methods used to solve the problems. There are over 200 questions in the book. This book by itself will cover some, but not all, of the topics encountered on the GCSE syllabus. There will be other books available in the series that seek to cover the other topics.
