Synopsis

From a pioneer in the conscious dying movement and founder of the Living/Dying Project comes an inclusive, nonsectarian spiritual guide to living and dying—written for caregivers, the aging, the bereaved, and anyone yearning to live more fully.

Caregivers, those facing a terminal diagnosis, and all seekers of deeper meaning will discover in this powerful book a path not only to conscious dying, but to living so fully that, when the moment arrives, death can be faced without fear. In this clear-eyed and compassionate guide, Dale Borglum—longtime meditation teacher and leader in the field of conscious dying—teaches how to work skillfully with fear and old wounds, tend to inner darkness, and recognize the wholeness of who we are in order to begin healing.

Drawing on an eclectic background that includes a doctorate in mathematical statistics and decades of cross-traditional spiritual study, Borglum presents a unique healing approach that integrates Western psychology, twelve-step programs, energy and somatic healing, devotional practices, the chakra system, ego dissolution, meditation, and more.

Through a threefold process of embodied mindfulness, compassion, and transmutation, readers learn to hold both suffering and wholeness at once, to understand grief as an invitation to deeper love, and to use simple yet profound tools to meet life’s most difficult moments with grace.

With wisdom and warmth, Borglum reveals how caring for ourselves and others can itself be a spiritual practice. He invites us to tend to both acute and chronic grief through forgiveness and self-love, offering a guiding insight born of years of study and experience: “Grief dares us to love again.”
