If you are an experienced programmer and you want to get into JavaScript in a hurry and use it to make interactive web pages, this book is for you. There is no fluff, no description of what loops are for or why you should use functions. At the other extreme, this isn’t an encyclopedia of everything you might possibly want or need in JavaScript.
The paper version of this book is almost 200 pages, longer than a quick introduction ought to be. Partly this is due to the major changes introduced in 2015, so the programmer needs to understand “old” JavaScript while being able to write in “new” JavaScript. Partly this is due to the inclusion of an introduction to the HTML DOM, because that’s the primary use of JavaScript.
This book won’t meet all your needs. It’s a springboard, a starting point. The goal is simply to get you started as quickly as possible. It won’t be the last book on JavaScript you will ever need, but it will serve you well as a first book.
