Synopsis

More and more organizations are seeking alternatives to traditional hierarchies—systems that balance participation with effectiveness, equity, clarity, and adaptability. Sociocracy offers a proven pathway to shared governance.

But how do you actually introduce it to an existing organization?

This book picks up where the well-known sociocracy handbook Many Voices One Song leaves off. With wisdom gained from dozens of implementations around the world, this practical guide walks readers step-by-step through the full journey:

  • Preparing an implementation and building legitimacy
  • Designing an effective circle structure
  • Writing governance agreements
  • Handling common pitfalls and resistance
  • Addressing budgeting, pay, and legal matters
  • Adapting sociocracy to your context: nonprofits, businesses, cooperatives, schools, networks, project-based work, and more

Packed with samples, diagrams, checklists, templates, stories, and many examples, this implementation companion is an essential resource for organizations ready to implement sociocracy as well as consultants supporting them.

Ted Rau and Jerry Koch-Gonzalez, authors of the sociocracy handbook Many Voices One Song, now offer this long-awaited guide to implementing sociocracy in not-yet-sociocratic organizations.
