When the author began searching for her biological mother her research led to mysteries and puzzles she felt compelled to solve. At age 60 the author's search for her biological mother uncovered the fact that her father was not her biological father. Her original birth certificate showed a different father which led to twenty years of research of this new found father. At age 85, through DNA testing, DNA matches revealed her true biological father. Not only had she found her biological mother and ancestors but she also discovered her biological father and paternal ancestors. The second part of the book is about the author's memoirs which are intended to inform her descendants of what her life was like after the great depression.
