This is Mark Twain's first book published in 1867, making him a national figure. It is a collection of 27 short stories that were previously published in periodicals and newspapers. The title story is the most famous and recounts the narration of a story told in Angels Camp, California about a gambler betting on his pet frog. The story is celebrated every year at the annual Angels Camp Jumping Frog Jubilee. His other stories poke fun at everything from insurance companies to chambermaids to high society.
