Binoy Majumdar (1934-2006) created work that continues to intrigue and inspire. A mechanical engineering graduate with a lifelong passion for mathematics, Majumdar's love for systematic observation beautifully permeates his poetry, rendering his work both hauntingly precise and achingly human. These poems, from his Hashpatale Lekha Kabitaguchchho for which he won the Sahitya Akademi Award (2005), were penned during his stay in a psychiatric hospital. These offer readers a rare glimpse into a mind teetering on the edge of brilliance and torment.
Arunava Sinha translates classic, modern, and contemporary Bengali and Hindi fiction and nonfiction into English, and English fiction into Bengali. Ninety of his translations have been published so far in the UK, the US, and Australia in English, and in several European and Asian countries through further translation. He is Professor of Practice in Creative Writing at Ashoka University, where he is also co-director of the Ashoka Centre for Translation.
