Synopsis

When a series of murders occur outside two abandoned military bases, newly hired Police Inspector Grayson Palmer is charged with solving them. But the town, fueled by memories of Japanese aggression during WWII and facing the new threat of the Eastern Bloc, is not quick to give up its secrets. As Palmer’s investigation deepens he is stymied by misdirection at the hands of Nomelian, a secret watch organization on the lookout for spies. He begins to doubt the loyalty of everyone around him including his boss; the chief of police; his lover, Ruby; and long time friends, Hiram and Polly Jack. A killer known only as "the Painter," prowls the streets seeking his own form of justice, and Palmer must decide who are patriots and who are subversives in a new and undeclared cold war, bent on protecting the identity of the killer and his victims. In this thrilling conclusion to the Rainbow Roads Trilogy, friends and family bonds are stretched to the max as world events dictate The Season of Enmity.
