Edward F. Mendez is an ordinary tree, of no specific species, growing in an ordinary copse. He has been diligent about growing down to reach his full spiritual potential. Ed describes himself as a mystic, humanist, Panentheist with pagan leanings, and a proud Social Liberal, although not a very good one. Few consider him brilliant or worth knowing. Many consider him to be a fool. Let it be for the reader to decide one way, or the other, or to put him in a different category altogether. In any case, his spouse, Raymond J. McQueen, thinks him of marriageable quality. They live outside of Santa Fe with Oscar the rescued pup.
