Synopsis

Long ago, wizards created a rift that shifted Earth’s once-abundant magic to a separate world called Thera. Now, a terrible war rages there: some wizards strive to reunite the worlds, while others believe doing so would destroy both spheres. Both sides are stealing children with magical talent, like Jessie and Tom, to aid their cause. Desperate to bring Jessie back, Tom allows himself to be changed into a centaur so he can cross to Thera. Once there, he learns that he and his sister are pawns in the wizards’ ongoing war. Rather than be manipulated, Tom and Jessie wage their own battles to save both worlds and return home.

About the Author

Gale Leach had a number of different careers—including English teacher, retail buyer, craft wholesaler, American Sign Language interpreter, and finally technical writer and trainer—before she started her own business doing technical writing and editing for biotechnology companies. She ran that company successfully for over 20 years, until her husband suggested she retire early. She didn't think twice. She also never really retired. After moving to Arizona, Gale fell in love with pickleball -- a wonderful sport with a silly name. She wrote her first book, The Art of Pickleball, in 2005, and it won the Arizona Book Award. She then turned to fiction, and in 2011 finished her first novel, Bruce and the Road to Courage, a heroic fantasy for children. Spurred by an enthusiastic response, Gale continued Bruce's adventures to four books with a fifth in progress. She is also writing The Rift Chronicles, a young adult fantasy series involving technology, magic, and creatures you only thought were mythological.
